Following rumors and speculations over the past few months, 9to5Mac has now institute evidence regarding the existence of 3D depth sensors for the upcoming iPhone 12 Pro serial in iOS 14 code.
Co-ordinate to the study, iOS 14 references the 2020 iPhone lineup with the codename "d5x". They came to this decision because the 2019 iPhone 11 lineup was referenced with the codename "d4x". This report essentially reiterates the rumor that the not-Pro 2020 iPhones would lack 3D sensors, every bit forecasted by noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and multiple manufacture sources over the by several months with valid reasoning.
With the add-on of 3D ToF sensor, 9to5Mac anticipates the iPhone 12 Pro'south camera module to pack a combination of a wide-angle lens, ultra-wide lens, telephoto camera, and 3D time-of-flight sensor.
The report mentions that the ToF sensor will make apply of an infrared projector, like to what Apple already has in its TrueDepth camera used for FaceID. This IR projector makes it possible for iPhones to map 3D models based on the surroundings. Apple tree is also reportedly working on a new AR app that we could see debut forth with iOS 14.
As you might be enlightened, Apple intends to use the 3D depth sensor to enhance the potential of AR experiences on iPhones. Co-ordinate to previous reports, Apple tree is expected to source the essential Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) sensors from its current supplier for Face ID sensors – Lumentum.
In the aforementioned study, 9to5Mac also revealed that the iPhone 9/ iPhone SE2 volition pack a single-lens rear camera that supports stereo audio video recording. Yesterday, they had found show of a Plus variant for the iPhone 9.
